Mastopexy or Breast Lift is a surgical procedure done to improve the shape of the sagging breast by adjusting the nipple location and removal of excess skin. In some instances breast enhancement ( implants placement ) is combined to restore the size of the breast.
Best candidates:
Women with sagging breasts because of aging, or multiple pregnancies or due to loss of elasticity of breast tissue.
Technique and Variations:
A standard technique involves placement of an incision around the areola going down in the form of an “inverted- T”. The nipple and areola are relocated to a new position and the underlying breast tissue is adjusted to give a shapely contour. There are various modifications to reduce the surgical scar, depending upon the surgeon’s choice, size and shape of the breast , and desire to have breast enhancement along with mastopexy.
Anesthesia:
This is done either under local anesthesia with sedation in suitable candidates or under general anesthesia. This can be done as a day care procedure. Sometimes a hospital stay of one day is required.
Before Surgery:
It is necessary to discuss the following important issues:
- Any associated illness or if the patient is on any medication
- The desired shape and size of breast and areola
- If needed to be combined with breast enhancement
After Surgery:
- Minor inconveniences like temporary numbness and discomfort are expected.
- Bruising, pain and fluid collection may be there which can be treated with pain killers.
- Compressivedressing for 4-7 days followed by supportive under garment for about 8weeks.
Duration of Results:
Long lasting.
Cost: It will cost around INR 50,000 – 60,000 |
